About Fridrik and Arnrun



Fridrik Valur Karlsson was born in 1970 and opened his restaurant, FRIDRIK V., on his 31st birthday, July 25th 2001. He was quite young when he began experimenting in his mom's kitchen, and also at
the house of his grandfather, who was a chef. As a young man, Fridrik worked as a butcher's assistant, and then began studying cooking and food preparation at the Akureyri Comprehensive College. He
was an apprenctice at Hotel Stefanía in Akureyri and Hotel Holt in Reykjavík, and graduated as a chef in 1993.
Fridrik has worked in most of the finest restaurants in Akureyri and been a columnist for various newspapers and magazines. He has also worked as a teacher at his old college, given lectures and
courses, hosted TV-programs and published cookbooks
The woman behind the chef
Arnrún Magnúsdóttir (Adda) was born on May 13, 1971. She met Fridrik in 1987 while they were at college, he studying to be a chef and she focusing on becoming a waitress. Since
then, Adda has been connected to the industry through Fridrik
and everywhere he worked, she helped out in some way or other, whether by doing dishes or serving and cooking food. During Fridrik’s college years she supported him financially and otherwise
and she was, for example, for a time the manager of a bookshop in Reykjavík After they moved back to their home town of Akureyri they had two children, Karen Ösp (b. March 2, 1992) and
Axel Fannar (b. April 24, 1996). Adda began studying to become a pre-school teacher and graduated from the University of Akureyri in 2000. Adda worked as a pre-school teacher along
with her work in the restaurant until November 2003. Then she decided to focus solely on the business and went on a special course for women running businesses . She was alsaw a teacher in the
University in Akureyri 2004-2006.
